When It Comes To Bathroom Cleaning Hacks, Vinegar Is Your New Best Friend

OK, vinegar can’t be used for all of the cleaning tasks in your bathroom, but it’s great for a few. For instance;
Get Bathroom Mirrors Spotless Using White Vinegar
If your bathroom mirror is difficult to see yourself in, you’re not alone. This is a common enough problem which the cleaning industry has made millions out of solving.
However, there is an easy way to solve this problem that won’t require any fancy cleaners or expensive chemicals. Grab your trusty spray bottle, mix a little warm water with white vinegar (half and half, no need for complicated ratios), and voilà, you’re armed and ready like a cleaning warrior!
Then spray the mixture onto the mirror and wipe off using a soft microfibre cloth. The dirty marks on the mirror are water spots and the vinegar/water solution is all you need to remove them.
Clean The Sink & Bathroom Countertops With White Vinegar
Water spots have a knack for showing up everywhere, mirrors, sinks, countertops. It’s almost like they’re throwing a house party when you’re not looking!
Just use that same 50/50 mix of white vinegar and warm water in a spray bottle and blast those stains away. Wipe with a soft cloth or sponge and see how clean your sink and countertop come up.
Remove Limescale From The Shower Head
If you live in a hard water area (and 60% of the UK population do), you’ll know all about limescale. That hard, off-white substance that coats taps. shower walls and the shower head.
There are many ways to remove that limescale and get your shower head flowing freely and looking bright and shiny again. But we prefer to use natural cleaners when we can.
So, we always reach for the white vinegar when the shower head needs a clean. For this one all you need to do is pour enough white vinegar into a bowl to cover the detached shower head. Let your shower head marinate in vinegar for an hour. Consider it a spa day for your plumbing, it deserves it after all those long, hard showers.
Then remove it from the vinegar and give it a rinse. It will now not only look clean, it will allow water to flow through each nozzle again. If not, simply use a wooden toothpick and prise the limescale from the holes. Be sure to prise the limescale out and not push it in further.
Clean The Shower Curtain

If you don’t regularly clean your shower curtain, it will start to smell and look disgusting. You can buy expensive cleaning products that will help to get your shower curtain clean. Or you can do what we do, use a couple of products that we already have in our cupboard.
All you need to do to get your shower curtain clean and free from smells is to mix 1 cup (284 ml) of bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) and 2 cups (568 ml) of white vinegar into 1 gallon (4.5 litres) of warm water. Apply this solution to the shower curtain using a soft cloth.
Let the concoction sit on the curtain like it’s binging its favourite Netflix series, then rinse off the grime with the shower head. Drama over!
Clean The Tiles In The Shower
While we’re on the subject of bathroom showers, let’s talk about the tiles on the wall of the shower. That same dirt, soap scum and hard water deposits that get all over your shower curtain also affect the tiles.
Mix 1 cup of bicarbonate of soda with 2 cups of white vinegar and apply this mixture to the tiles using a sponge. Allow to sit for a few minutes before wiping away with a damp cloth.
You’ll be amazed at just how clean your tiles will look!
Cleaning The Bathroom Sink Drain
The sink in the bathroom is often getting clogged and it’s usually a dirty smelly mess that comes out of it. This is usually a combination of hairs, dirt and grime.
Over time it builds up and clogs the sink or at least makes it run slower than it should. The most effective way we’ve found to clear this is to pour 2 or 3 cups of bicarbonate of soda down the sink drain followed by 1 cup of white vinegar.
Then you need to pour 2 or 3 cups of boiling water down the drain. Take care not to use too much water as you could cause it to overflow.
When bicarb and vinegar meet, it’s like a science fair volcano, except this one clears your drains instead of ruining the kitchen counter. Toss in some boiling water for an encore performance!
Other Bathroom Cleaning Hacks Using Bicarbonate Of Soda

You might have noticed that white vinegar co-stars in a lot of these bathroom cleaning hacks. Its longtime partner in the battle against dirt, grime and soap scum is bicarbonate of soda, what some of you might know as baking soda.
Bicarb can be used on its own for some great bathroom cleaning hacks like;
Cleaning The Bath
This one’s so simple and takes less time than you’d normally take to clean the bath. Just sprinkle around 3 cups (852 ml) of bicarb all over the inside of the bath and let it work its magic. You’ve just earned a 10-minute tea break, or coffee, if you’re feeling fancy.
When you come back bring the washing up liquid with you and squeeze about 7 drops all over the bath. Then use a dampened cleaning brush to clean all of the inside of the bath. Rinse and voila, a sparklingly clean bath.
Deodorising The Toilet
No one likes a stinky toilet, least of all when guests pop over and suddenly decide to give your “throne” a royal inspection. All you need to do to prevent this is pour 2 to 3 cups of bicarb into the cistern (you can use borax instead if you like).
Alternatively just pour 1 cup of washing up liquid into the toilet bowl if you prefer.
Getting Rid Of Mould
If your bathroom tiles are covered in mould, bicarbonate of soda comes to the rescue once again. All you need to do is pour ¼ of a cup (71 ml) of a bleach and warm water mix onto a sponge and sprinkle bicarbonate of soda on top.
Scrub away that stubborn mould like it’s your arch-nemesis. But don’t forget those gloves, nobody wants their cleaning session to double as a chemistry experiment gone wrong.
Other Bathroom Hacks Using Unconventional Cleaners

It’s not all white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda, there are other household products that are great for cleaning the bathroom. They include;
Spray Cooking Oil
Cleaning soap scum from the tiles in your bathroom can be a right chore. This cleaning hack is really quite odd and you’ll probably think we’re losing the plot. But it really does work!
Soap scum is caused when soap mixes with hard water which is pretty hard to avoid when you’re taking a shower. A great way to get rid of soap scum is by spraying it with spray cooking oil… Yep, that’s right, cooking oil.
Spray the tiles with cooking oil, it might sound bizarre, but hey, if it can prevent eggs from sticking to a pan, it can handle soap scum too!
Finish off by using a damp cloth to make your tiles look bright and shiny again.
Dryer Sheets
If you use dryer sheets in your tumble dryer you can grab one to get your bath clean in a hurry. If your home is anything like ours, the bath can get pretty disgusting at times.
A great way to remove dirt and grime from the bath is to wipe it all over with a dryer sheet. All you need to do is dip the dryer sheet in warm water to activate the chemicals and wipe the bath.
Scrub with all the determination of someone trying to get the last bit of toothpaste out of the tube, it’s oddly satisfying and surprisingly effective.
Toothpaste
This one is for the toilet bowl and involves a toothbrush (preferably an old one) and toothpaste. All you do is apply the toothpaste to the toothbrush and scrub the affected area.
Warning: You might end up using more toothpaste on the toilet than you ever have on your teeth. Don’t worry; the minty fresh vibes are worth it!
When you’re done simply flush the toilet to remove any trace of toothpaste.
Freshen The Toilet With Zoflora
To remove bad smells and eliminate germs from your toilet, simply pour 1 to 2 cups of zoflora all around the bowl. Leave overnight and wake up to a fresh smelling bacteria free toilet.
Freshen The Bathroom With Zoflora
Zoflora is a versatile anti-bacterial cleaner which can also be used on the bathroom floor. Start by sweeping or vacuuming any dust away and then mop the floor using warm water and zoflora.
Simply mix 1 or 2 cups of zoflora into a bucket of warm water and mop the floor. Once it dries the floor will be visibly and hygienically clean.
