How To Remove The Doors On A Samsung Refrigerator

If the door or door parts on your Samsung refrigerator are damaged and need replacing, or you are moving home and can’t fit the unit through the door, keep reading. In this article we explain exactly how to remove the doors on your Samsung fridge freezer.

How To Remove Samsung Fridge Freezer Doors

To remove the door on a Samsung fridge freezer you will need;

  • Phillips Screwdriver
  • Small Flat Bladed Screwdriver
  • 4mm Allen key
  • 10mm Spanner (or ratchet)
  • 12mm Spanner

Method

Starting with the freezer door;

  1. Disconnect The Power Supply
    Remove the plug from the wall socket or flip the circuit breaker to the off position.
  2. Turn Off The Water Supply
    Turn the water inlet tap to the off position.
  3. Remove The Door Furniture
    Lift and remove all of the door baskets and the ice maker.
  4. Disconnect The Water Pipes
    Remove the plinth by unscrewing the 2 screws this gives you access to the water pipes. You need to remove the pipes from the cradle, all you need to do then is press the coupler at one end to disconnect the water pipe. Repeat this with the other pipe as well.
  5. Remove The Hinge Cover
    With the doors closed, remove the screw holding the hinge cover and gently turn the cover over. 
  6. Disconnect The Hinge
    You then need to remove the sensor plug by using a small flat head screwdriver and prising the connector apart. After that you can unscrew the earth cable, and disconnect the plug.
  7. Remove the 3 Bolts Holding The Hinge In Place
    Using a 10mm spanner or ratchet, remove the 3 10mm bolts.
  8. Remove The Door
    Carefully lift the door straight up taking care to not damage the lower hinge.
  9. Remove The Lower Hinge Bracket
    Undo the 3 bolts holding the bracket in place using the 10mm spanner or ratchet.

Moving onto the fridge door;

  1. Remove all of the door furniture
    Lift and remove all of the trays etc that are attached to the door; these simply lift out.
  2. Remove The Hinge Cover
    Unscrew the screw holding the hinge cover in place, then turn the cover over and unclip the sensor. Then remove the 2 plugs using a flat headed screwdriver.
  3. Remove the 3 Bolts Holding The Hinge In Place
    Using a 10mm spanner or ratchet, remove the 3 10mm bolts. Once the bolts are out, the hinge will lift away from the door.
  4. Remove The Door
    Carefully lift the door straight up taking care to not damage the lower hinge.
  5. Remove The Lower Hinge Bracket
    Remove the bottom hinge (it just lifts out) then undo the 3 bolts holding the bracket in place using the 10mm spanner or ratchet.

Now the doors have been successfully removed, the refrigerator should fit through any standard sized doorway. When it’s time to replace the doors, simply do the same as before in reverse.

Once the doors have been refitted it is possible that they are no longer aligned. You may need to adjust them to realign them.

To realign the doors do the following;

  1. Unscrew the locking nut on the lower hinge of each door.
  2. Then use the allen key to loosen the adjuster and adjust the height of each door accordingly.
  3. Once the doors are aligned correctly, tighten the locking nut to keep the alignment in the correct position.

How To Replace The Bespoke Refrigerator Door Panels On A Samsung Refrigerator

Unless you are confident in your DIY abilities, we recommend getting a professional engineer to replace the door panels for you. However, if you decide to do it yourself, you will need to buy the door panels separately.

We should also point out that any damage caused to the replacement panels or personal injury is at your own risk.

To replace the door panels you will need;

  • Suction Cup (15kg+ lift force)
  • Protective Gloves
  • Flat Head Screwdriver

Method;

  1. Remove Retaining Clips On The Upper Door Panel.
  2. Attach the suction cup on the top of the upper door panel.
  3. Carefully pull the suction cup forwards to pull the upper panel out. 
  4. Support the bottom of the panel with your hands to ensure that you don’t drop it.
  5. Gently place the upper panel on the floor
  6. Remove the retaining clips on the bottom of the lower door panel.
  7. Attach the suction cup on the bottom of the lower door panel.
  8. Gently pull the suction cup forward to pull out the lower panel.
  9. Support the top of the panel with your hands to prevent it falling
  10. Gently place the lower panel on the floor

How To Replace The Door Panels On The Samsung Bespoke Refrigerator

To replace the door panels on the Samsung Bespoke refrigerator you should;

  1. Place the top panel into the groove along the bottom of the top door.
  2. Gently press the edges of the panel to secure it.
  3. Insert the retaining clips on the top of the door panel.
  4. Place the bottom panel into the groove along the top of the bottom door.
  5. Gently press the edges of the panel to secure it.
  6. Insert the retaining clips on the bottom of the door panel.
  7. Check that there are no gaps between the panel and the door and that the retaining clips are fully inserted. This will prevent the panel from falling off.

Please Note: You need to exercise extreme caution when handling the door panels as they can easily become damaged. Take extra care when placing them on the floor and when fitting them into the grooves on the doors.

How To Reverse The Doors On A Samsung Refrigerator

If you own a top and bottom mount Samsung refrigerator it is possible to reverse the doors and access the contents from the opposite side. Consult your handbook for model specific instructions and be aware that Samsung recommends that the doors are reversed by authorised technicians only.

However, if you decide that you want to reverse the doors on your top and bottom mount Samsung refrigerator you will need the following tools;

  • Philips Screwdriver
  • Flat Head Screwdriver
  • 8mm Spanner (or ratchet)
  • 11mm Spanner (or ratchet)

To reverse the doors do the following;

  1. Remove the hinge cover by using the flat head screwdriver to unclip the cover.
  2. Remove the cap door and wire cover and disconnect the wire connector.
  3. Remove the screws on the upper hinge.
  4. Carefully lift the fridge door straight up to remove it from the middle hinge.
  5. Remove the screws from the middle hinge using the Philips screwdriver. Support the freezer door as it may fall forward once the middle hinge is removed.
  6. Carefully lift the freezer door straight up to remove it from the bottom hinge.
  7. Lay the door down carefully and switch the cap position on the upper side of the door.
  8. Check the lever auto closer and screws at the bottom of the doors that need relocating.
  9. Change the feet and change the position of the screw cap.
  10. Change the position of the bottom hinge and feet (move from the left side to the right side).
  11. After placing the freezer door on the middle hinge, assemble the lower hinge.
  12. Secure the middle hinge using the Philips screwdriver.
  13. Change the door wire over to the opposite side and insert the door wire cover.
  14. Assemble the cap space door and change the position of the fridge and freezer door gasket.
  15. You will need to detach the fridge and freezer gaskets, turn them 180 degrees and attach them again.
  16. Insert the top hinge and secure it to the fridge.
  17. Reconnect the wire connector and insert the wire. Replace the wire cover and replace the cap door.
  18. Check that the door seal fits correctly.
  19. Close the doors and check that the appliance is working properly.

Samsung recommends that the refrigerator isn’t plugged into the power supply for at least 1 hour after the doors have been reversed.
