How to Reset Any KitchenAid Refrigerator (easiest way)
In this article we’ll tell you all you need to know to successfully and easily reset your KitchenAid refrigerator. Along with ways to reset other parts of your KitchenAid refrigerator. Some of these resets will literally take only a few seconds to perform.
Is There A Reset Button On My KitchenAid Refrigerator?
There is no dedicated reset button on a KitchenAid refrigerator (apart from those models with an electric control panel) but there is a quick and easy way to effect a reset on any KitchenAid refrigerator.
How To Reset Your KitchenAid Refrigerator
Just press one of the following buttons (depending on the model refrigerator you own).
- Water Filter
- Filter Reset
For kitchenAid refrigerators with Water Filter buttons, just press and hold the button until the filter icon turns blue on the display panel.
For kitchenAid refrigerators with Filter Reset buttons, just press and hold the button until the flashing filter status light goes off.
These processes are exactly the same as you would use after replacing the water filter to reset the control panel. But it also acts as a reset button as well.
Resetting Your KitchenAid Refrigerator After A Power Outage
Power outages are events we cannot plan for or prevent, but fortunately we can easily reset a kitchenAid refrigerator once the power outage has passed. All you need to do is tap any button at all to stop the alarm from beeping.
Then tap another random button that will remove the power outage icon. And that’s it, the refrigerator now knows that you are aware there was a power outage and you’ve reset the refrigerator to normal working conditions.
How To Perform A Hard Reset On A KitchenAid Refrigerator
A hard reset often removes any minor glitches in the system and is easy to perform. Simply remove the plug from the power supply or turn off the circuit breaker. Allow at least 10 to 15 minutes to pass before plugging the appliance back in and turning on the power supply. You should hear the compressor restart and possibly the fan kick in. Check the control panel for the standard display and you’re all done.
How To Reset The Door Alarm
To reset the door alarm, simply shut the door. This will cause the alarm to cut out once the inside reaches its correct temperature.
How To Reset The Water Filter
There are three ways of resetting the water filter depending on the model refrigerator you own. Either;
- Press and hold down the “filter” reset button for 3 to 5 seconds until the water filter status light goes off.
- Press “max cool” and “max ice” buttons simultaneously until the display counts down from 3 to 1 and then the icon will flash and a beep will sound.
- Press and hold down the “water filter” button until the replace filter message disappears from the screen and the filter icon turns blue.
Resetting The “Temperature Too High” Alarm
This will automatically reset once the correct temperature has been reached. To turn off the alarm and reset the display icons press the “reset alarm” button. You will need to repeat this every 4 hours until the temperature has returned to normal.
How To Reset The Temperature
To reset the temperature, remove the plug, or turn off the circuit breaker, and wait for 5 to 10 minutes to allow any residue power to dissipate. Turn both the fridge and freezer controls inside the fridge to “off” or “0”.
Then reconnect the power supply and set the temperature settings to your desired levels. Allow a full 24 hours for the levels to reach your set level.
Resetting Your KitchenAid Refrigerator To Factory Settings
To reset your KitchenAid refrigerator to factory settings select options on the display panel. From the list choose settings and then factory reset. Choose yes and the refrigerator will revert to its original settings.
Resetting The Ice Maker
To reset the ice maker, open the freezer door and turn on the switch for the ice maker. Locate the plastic tab on the door jamb, gently tap it and the fridge light will extinguish. Shut the freezer door and allow around 10 seconds to elapse, then open the door and press the door tab 3 times before shutting the door. Keep the door shut for around 1 to 2 minutes to allow the ice maker to reset correctly.
Resetting The Compressor
To reset the compressor, remove the power supply from your refrigerator by unplugging it or switching the circuit breaker. After around 5 minutes, turn off the thermostat inside the refrigerator and reconnect the power supply again. Adjust the thermostat to the desired position and wait for the refrigerator to adjust.
The thermostat will cause the compressor to reset and start to produce the necessary conditions to achieve your desired temperature.
How To Reset The Control Panel
Depending on the model refrigerator you own, you can reset the control panel in one of two ways, either;
- Press and hold down both the “holiday” and “freeze” buttons at the same time for 8 to 10 seconds.
- Hold down the “power” and “light” buttons simultaneously until the screen clears (usually around 10 seconds).
