The short answer is yes, a single Ring Doorbell can be connected to multiple phones or devices, and there’s more than one way to do it.

In this article we’ll explain exactly how you can set up a Ring Doorbell so that it can be accessed from multiple phones or devices (laptops etc).

How To Connect Multiple Devices To A Ring Doorbell Via The Shared Users Feature

To connect multiple devices or users to your Ring Doorbell you will need to access the Ring Doorbell app. Once you have accessed the app simply;

1. Click on the Ring button
   This will be located on the right hand corner of the app screen.
2. Select “shared users” from the options list
   From the list of options select “shared users” and then click “add”.
3. Fill in the address form
   Add the email address of the person you want to share Ring access with and then click “OK”.
4. Open the email link
   The person who’s email address you just shared will receive an email link to gain access to the shared Ring account.
5. Click on the invite and follow the online directions
   On clicking the link, the invitee will be directed to a new screen which they will have to create a new Ring account using your existing email ID.
6. Click “Next” to create the account
   They will then need to install the Ring app and click the “Login” option to verify their account.

This will allow them access to your Ring Doorbell with limited functionality. They will be able to view all of the activities available with Ring apart from the ability to delete videos.

Ring Doorbell shared users can;

• Receive alerts
• Answer the doorbell and motion sensors

• Turn alerts On and Off on any device they are using

How Else Can You Connect More Than One Phone To A Ring Doorbell?

It is possible to log into your Ring Doorbell account from multiple devices. This means it’s possible to allow another user to log into your Ring Doorbell account using your login details. However, this allows them full access to your account including the features which shared users cannot access.

This is fine as long as you have total trust in whoever you are sharing those details with. If you are not quite so sure of the good character of that individual, it is safer to get them to login themselves after you have invited them to become a shared user.

What Devices Will Work With A Ring Doorbell?

There are multiple devices capable of using the Ring Doorbell system. Including;

Mobile Phones

You will be able to connect your mobile phone to the Ring Doorbell as long as it can download the Ring app. The Ring app works with all operating systems including;

• Windows
• Android
• IOS
• Apple Phone

If it can download the Ring app it can be connected to a Ring Doorbell. Even if the main user uses a Windows phone and the shared users are on a different operating system, Android for example, it makes no difference. As long as you can download the Ring app, you can have shared access to the Ring Doorbell.

Tablets

Just like mobile phones, as long as your tablet can download the Ring app, you can use the Ring Doorbell. No matter which operating system you use you can have access to the Ring Doorbell as long as you can download the Ring Doorbell app.

There are some advantages to using a tablet with your Ring Doorbell like the larger screen for example which will make viewing video footage far easier. Some older tablets might have some problems with audio as some tablets never had microphones.

Smart TVs

Not all Smart TVs are able to connect with the Ring Doorbell. However it’s worth trying to download the Ring app because that’s all it takes to connect your Smart TV to a Ring Doorbell. Most of the newer Amazon Fire TVs can connect to the Ring Doorbell as can Android TVs as long as they are connected via Google’s Chromecast. 

As far as we are aware, Samsung Smart TVs are the only models which are compatible with Ring Doorbell Pro.

Alexa

Alexa can connect with the Ring Doorbell but it does not have video capability. However, the Ring Video Doorbell is compatible with Alexa Spot, Alexa Show and Alexa Smart TV.

Plus the system is easy to set up, all you have to do is log on to the Amazon Alexa app and select the Ring Video Doorbell option. Doing this will allow Alexa to search for all Ring compatible devices.

If this proves to be problematic, you can activate it yourself. All you need to do is access the home screen on the Ring app and select “Smart Home”, then click on “Add Device” and then select the device once you see it. You can then activate Alexa by asking it to open your device it will then display the live feed from your Ring Video Doorbell.

Google Home And Assistant

This has been problematic for some users as Google have only recently set up Ring Doorbell functionality. You set it up in the same way as Alexa and most Smart TVs. Ring Doorbell can easily be accessed through Chromecast Smart TV .

There have been some compatibility issues reported by a few users but hopefully any problems will be sorted out soon because Google have been working on solving these teething problems.

IFTTT

Ring Doorbells will work with the “If This Then That” (IFTTT) systems. The IFTTT system is really for the advanced Smart home user. If you want to use the IFTTT system it can be downloaded from the app store. 

Once downloaded you’ll need to set up an account and then follow the instructions to add Ring Doorbell.
